Stop Blindly Tackling Technical Debt

Jacob Orshalick

Before you blindly tackle technical debt, remember:

Perfection is the enemy of good.

If it’s “good enough”, ship it.

Remember that a business solely exists to make money and development work is an expense. Tackling technical debt may be worth the expense, but needs to be justified by a return on that investment.

  • Will it save development effort?
  • Will it reduce hosting costs?
  • Will it allow us to scale further?

Once you know the value of the effort, prioritization is easy.
